Sunrising 2024
Tulsa International Airport
Sunrising is a permanent, site-specific artwork realized for the Tulsa International Airport. Utilizing an array of suspended colored-resin panels, the work pays homage to the magnificent gradient of color in the sky experienced during flight and to the expansive skies of Tulsa and the Southern Plains. Moving from one end to the other, the color shifts from the hopeful glow of sunrise to the saturated palette of sunset.
Each panel in the installation is connected to its own motor-drive system embedded in the ceiling above, each spinning at two revolutions per minute and offset in rotation from the next– ever so slightly. As the panels rotate together, they form a choreographed motion from end to end, like the slow lapping of a wave or the steady breath of wind across the landscape.
